Squirrel-proof Feeder? Hah.

This supposedly squirrel-proof set-up is far from that when there is more than a foot of snow on the ground. I missed getting a shot of this squirrel moments earlier, straddling the gap with one hind foot on the cone and one on the bottom of the tube feeder.

there's nothing more clever than a hungry squirrel! Great shots Penny.

To squirrel proof your squirrel proof feeder, get a piece of PVC pipe and then put your post inside of it or move all the snow from the bottom of it.

It's the snow height, Richard - they can bypass the pole entirely and jump right onto the cone, though that is slippery for them too. I don't mind, really, so I don't think I'll bother removing the snow (it's probably very hard and icy). But thanks for the PVC suggestion - I'll keep it in mind if it turns out they can climb the pole when the snow is gone, but I don't think they can.
